To conduct research on the utility for rehabilitation, stabilisation and sustainability of the biofuel feedstock legume tree Pongamia pinnata and nutrient flow associated with its nitrogen fixation potential on coal mine tailings, the Centre was awarded a major ARC Linkage grant of $498,000 (starting July 2012). Together with cash contributions from commercial partner organisations, Stanwell Corporation Ltd ($225,000) and BioEnergy Plantation Pty Ltd ($150,000), this three year, $873,000 project will further illustrate the multiple applications of this legume energy crop. Professors Peter Gresshoff (CILR/SAFS/QAAFI) and Neal Menzies (SAFS) are the Chief Investigators and will be joined by Centre staff Drs Paul Scott and Arief Indrasumunar as the project team.
